Some of you may recall my curiosity with cargo dimensions. Well, now we’ve evolved — or devolved, if you prefer — to general vehicle dimensions. Basically, I’m seeing what would actually fit in my garage.
From the garage door sensor to the back studs, the maximum depth of my garage is about 224". Moreover, if such a vehicle ever 6' tall, it will require I remove the existing upper shelving. Without removing that, max the depth is 210". I believe my garage door header height is about 80". What does this mean for my wish list? Well...
Ack! What a shock.
Oh God, those cargo stats hnnnnng
Apparently, the old Tundra is one loooooooooong sumbitch. It’s 9" longer than it’s predecessor, the T100. 9 !!! But the Land Boi length was a pleasant surprise. I’m sure I could make the Tundra work if I really wanted one, though.
If you’re wondering why I bother, the answer is simple: if I’m spending decent coin on any vehicle, it’s living in the garage. That’s what my g arage is supposed to be : a car hole.
Other fun facts: I couldn’t find any official numbers online, but my longbed is about 184" long, about 7 of that in the rear bumper alone. The Sportly is about 8" shorter. Them both being narrow vehicles has been a great convenience in the garage.
Well anyway, thanks for donating a few of your remaining brain cells by looking at this post.

cruisers are bigly but not as bigly as eve ryone thinks. they are quite tidy all things considered.
a joop jlu is 188x74x74 but only 72.4 cubic feet of volume

SUVs and CUVs being the lifted wagons that they really are, are not as big as everyone thinks they are. It still amazes my father-in-law that his “big” Equinox is actually shorter in length than the Malibu it replaced. It’s just the efficiency of a 2-box design.
Kudos to you for keeping your vehicles in the garage. It never ceases to amaze me how many people keep tens of thousands of dollars in vehicles outside, while the garage is filled with many cubic yards of worth less garbage. Even in the hardest climate around here, that’s true more often than not.
My garage is actually big enough that I could park my truck in it, but I would have to get rid of my scooters and a bunch of my tools. Someday I want to add a third stall onto the garage, so I can have a scooter/workshop stall, and keep my truck in the garage. My wife’s car has never spent a night outside.

Are you okay with not being able to walk around it? I dunno about you but that’s a real pet peeve of mine. Whenever I back my truck in, I try to get it as close to the overhead door as I can. That leaves me with about a 2 foot walkway behind it (wish it was 3). If I need to get under the hood, I open the overhead door.

I would also like a third bay, but considering all the other things I need my monies to do, I'm considering that to be a pipe dream.

It is a concern, it's pretty damn tight as it is right now.

Oh believe me, it's a pipe dream for me as well. I've got at least another $20k, and probably $30k, to dump into this house, before I can even think about spending monies on more garage.

224" is an awfully small space to work with. At least you got that room off to the side for workbench stuff, so you don’t have to squeeze a bench along that back wall.

Clearly this garage was built before bigly big things were commonplace. Same with my last house: a single cab Tacoma fit with about 4" to spare.

Yeah, and then you look at that extra money that you’ll never have and be like “hmm, I could invest, I could save, I could pay down debt...” I envy those that can finan cially justify big ticket items for themselves (a new car, a new garage, a boat).

I was shocked that the current 4dr taco (short bed) was just shorter than my 1st gen Tundra.
